I am wanting to add a covering onto my existing front porch that would tie into my roof. I have been trying to get a permit to do this and have been met with much difficulty. I was told I would need to get an engineered site plan to proceed so I went forward with obtaining that. Then when I presented those I was told that I could not add the covering because I needed to have at least 30 setback from the front of my house to my property line and the new overhang would become the new front of my house which would make the setback to my property line about 25. This is extremely frustrating because I just spent $1200 on a site plan that you told me I needed to just tell me that I still cannot do it. I also just read the zoning ordinance and it says the setback is 30 from abutting street not my property line. If it is from the abutting street I would have plenty of setback even with the covering being the new front of my house. Is there anything that can be done to get me the permit?
